Latour and Botticelli Pottery Series

My favorite “dress-up” outfit is a simple black dress with pearls. It’s hard to go wrong with that. However, working on most of my daily to-do’s from sun up and most often long after sun down, dress up is anything that is not covered in paint, clay, or dirt. In fact, antique brooches and scarves are often used to cover some paint if need be. I also don’t do lots of make up and waking up to curl my hair has not been a thing since I’d wake up at 5am to “do my bangs” in high school— back in the 90s— woo that’s long ago. I tip my hat to all those of you who do.

Still I must have lipstick no matter what the day calls for. Even though I only like soft color lipsticks, it makes me feel like I’m ready for the day. So, I like my lipstick to be ready to go. It’s the one item that I indulge myself with. So, I made myself a pretty little vessel to hold my lipsticks on the counter ready at all times and after seeing it and using it everyday for the last few week, I realized how it pleased me to see it. I thought that you would like it as well, so I made more.

The shape is from a vase in one of the Latour paintings. At first they were just going to be little ivory color containers, but when studying about the Birth of Venus, I learned that Bottticelli was a goldsmith so he added roses in the painting and then detailed them with touches of gold. How romantic is that? Surely a lipstick vessel has to have a bit of gold and some lovely roses worthy of Venus.

These Latour & Botticelli lipstick vessels and other ceramic pieces along with a painting or two will be available tonight.
